Pre-apprentice Program

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work in an electrical trade?

Transgrid and Belmont TAFE have partnered to offer you a 7 week pre-apprenticeship program.

This program includes three subjects that can be used as credit towards a Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician. This is a great way to get a head start on you apprenticeship as a licensed electrician or electrical tradesperson and learn whether the industry is right for you, before committing to a full apprenticeship.

Learning modules include:

  • an introduction on 240 volt electrical systems,
  • an over-view of occupational health and safety;
  • and the basics on fixing and securing electro technology equipment.

These units are self-paced and online. You will then be able to attend practical work experience with other participants at Transgrid. During this time you will get a power station and substation tour, hand skills and wiring training, resume feedback, interview tips and much more.

Your final week of study will then be untaken at Belmont TAFE for in-person learning and revision.
