Company: TransGrid

Permanent Full Time | Sydney, Newcastle or NSW Wide

Australia’s energy system is undergoing a major transformation. Transgrid is at the centre of this shift, delivering the high voltage transmission infrastructure that will support a more reliable and sustainable energy future for New South Wales.

We are looking for a Senior Project Engineer to support the delivery of complex transmission, substation and system strength projects across our expanding portfolio. This includes critical infrastructure such as data centres and synchronous condenser installations, which are essential to maintaining grid stability as renewable energy grows.

This is a hands on role where you will work closely with Senior Project Managers, contractors and stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time and to a high standard.

About the Role

  • As a Senior Project Engineer, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of complex transmission, substation and system strength projects across New South Wales, including data centre infrastructure and synchronous condenser installations.
  • Working closely with the Senior Project Manager and broader delivery team, you will contribute across the full project lifecycle, from early design coordination through to construction, commissioning and final handover.
  • You will be involved in day to day project activities, helping to ensure works are delivered safely, on schedule and to the required standards.
  • You will take responsibility for coordinating engineering inputs, managing technical queries and supporting the integration of design, procurement and construction activities. This includes working with internal engineering teams, external consultants, contractors and customers to ensure alignment and progress across all aspects of delivery.
  • The role also provides the opportunity to take ownership of defined work packages and, where appropriate, smaller projects. This will give you exposure to managing key project elements such as scope, schedule, cost and quality, while continuing to build your capability in a structured and supportive environment.
  • You will spend time both in the office and on site, working closely with construction teams to understand how projects are being delivered in practice. This may involve coordinating site activities, supporting outage planning, managing access requirements and ensuring that safety and quality standards are consistently met.
  • Given the nature of the projects, you will also be exposed to technically complex and fast evolving areas such as data centre developments and synchronous condenser installations. These environments require a strong focus on reliability, interface management and coordination across multiple stakeholders, offering valuable experience in high demand infrastructure sectors.
  • This role is well suited to someone who enjoys being close to delivery, taking ownership of their work and building their experience across complex, multidisciplinary projects. It offers the opportunity to develop into a broader project leadership role over time within a growing delivery organisation.

About You

You are an experienced Senior Project Engineer who has developed strong technical and delivery capability in infrastructure or energy projects. You are comfortable working in a fast paced environment and enjoy being close to the detail of how projects are delivered.

You will bring:

  • A degree in Engineering, ideally Electrical, Civil, Structural or Mechanical
  • Experience working on data centre infrastructure and synchronous condenser projects, or similar high value, technically complex environments
  • Exposure to delivery across both development and construction phases of projects
  • Hands on experience working in construction environments, including transmission, substations or related infrastructure
  • The ability to manage your own work packages and contribute to project outcomes
  • Confidence interpreting drawings, specifications and technical information
  • Experience working with contractors and coordinating across multiple parties
  • An understanding of safety, quality and environmental requirements on site
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team
  • A proactive approach and willingness to take ownership of your work
