Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia

Company: TransGrid

The Opportunity | Open to Sydney & Newcastle Region

We have an exciting opportunity for a Construction Engineering Team Lead to join our Construction Technical Services function.

This is a newly created leadership role that will play a key part in building the capability, structure, and maturity of our construction engineering team. You will lead a growing team of construction engineering professionals. This role will suit someone who brings strong electrical construction experience, practical site credibility and the ability to lead, coach and develop others.

You will help shape how the team supports construction delivery, embeds standards and procedures, and partners with project, construction, design, commissioning, and delivery teams. This is a hands-on leadership role. While the role can be based from any Transgrid office or depot, regular travel to project sites will be required to provide visible leadership, support the team, and stay closely connected to delivery works.

A Day in the Life

In this role, you will lead and develop a team of construction engineering subject matter experts, supporting them to grow their capability and deliver high-quality support to the business.

You will work closely with construction leaders, delivery managers, commissioning teams, design teams, governance and assurance, project development teams, and delivery partners to ensure construction engineering input is embedded early and effectively across the delivery lifecycle.

You will also support the development and continuous improvement of construction standards, procedures, and processes, ensuring the team’s involvement in delivery works is clear, practical, and repeatable.

Key areas of focus will include:

  • Leading, coaching and developing a growing construction engineering team
  • Building individual development plans and supporting team capability uplift
  • Improving and embedding construction procedures, standards, and ways of working
  • Supporting construction planning, site performance, risk controls, and delivery outcomes
  • Providing hands-on support and visible leadership across project sites
  • Partnering with construction, design, commissioning, governance, and delivery teams

Why this role matters

This role is critical to the growth and maturity of our Construction Technical Services function. As Transgrid’s delivery program continues to grow, we need strong construction engineering leadership to help build capability, improve consistency, and ensure the team is set up to support safe and efficient project delivery.

You will play a direct role in shaping how the construction engineering team operates, how it supports delivery, and how it develops the next generation of technical capability across the business. This includes supporting succession planning, motivating the team, and building a high-performance culture. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to combine technical credibility with people leadership, process improvement, and meaningful impact across major infrastructure delivery.

About You

You are an experienced electrical construction professional with the credibility to lead in a site-based delivery environment and the leadership capability to coach, motivate and develop others. You may come from a construction engineering, site leadership, field engineering, electrical construction, delivery partner, or similar environment. You do not need to have led a large direct team before, but you will need to demonstrate strong leadership potential, the ability to influence others, and a genuine interest in developing people.

You will bring:

  • Electrical trade, diploma, engineering qualification, or equivalent electrical field experience
  • Strong understanding of electrical construction and construction planning
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, motivate or influence technical teams
  • A practical, safety-first mindset and strong site-based delivery awareness
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across technical, construction and project teams
  • Ability to support process improvement, standards, procedures, and governance
  • Driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly to project sites
