Site Manager

Date: 19 Jun 2026

Location: Newcastle, NSW, Australia

Company: TransGrid

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network—powering homes, businesses, and communities.

The Opportunity | Newcastle & Hunter Region

We are seeking experienced Site Managers to join our Infrastructure Delivery, Construction team and help coordinate the safe delivery of construction works across Transgrid’s high-voltage infrastructure.

Reporting to the relevant Construction Team Manager, you will support the day-to-day management of construction works, with a focus on substation and building projects. You will monitor contractor and internal workforce performance, inspect works against drawings and specifications, coordinate site documentation, support testing and commissioning activities, and ensure work is delivered in line with contract requirements, Transgrid procedures and WHS and environmental obligations.

This is a field-based construction role requiring regular and significant travel across NSW, including travel between depots, project sites and regional work fronts. Depending on project requirements, you may be required to spend periods of time away from your nominated base location.  This is a hands-on site delivery role suited to someone who enjoys being close to the work, solving problems in real time and helping teams deliver safely and to standard.

A Day in the Life

No two days will look the same, but you could be:

  • Coordinating construction activities across substation and building project sites
  • Monitoring contractor performance, progress, safety and quality
  • Inspecting works to confirm alignment with drawings, specifications and project requirements
  • Maintaining site records, construction forms, diaries and works-as-executed information
  • Supporting testing, commissioning, fault finding and project handover activities
  • Attending site progress meetings and helping resolve technical or contractual issues
  • Ensuring ITPs, commissioning check sheets and project documentation are completed accurately
  • Supporting system operation requirements, including access authorities, RFAs and switching activities where required
  • Escalating emerging site, outage, safety or delivery risks to the Construction Team Manager

Why this role matters

As a Site Manager, you will help ensure critical construction works are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standard.

You will be an important link between the field, contractors, project teams and internal stakeholders. Your attention to detail, practical site leadership and commitment to safe delivery will support the construction of infrastructure that keeps electricity flowing to homes, businesses and communities across NSW and the ACT.

This is a strong opportunity to build your career within Transgrid’s construction workforce and contribute to a pipeline of essential infrastructure works.

About You

You are practical, organised and safety driven. You understand how construction sites operate, you are comfortable coordinating contractors and internal teams, and you know the importance of clear documentation, strong communication and early issue escalation.

You will bring:

  • Experience in construction, testing and commissioning of transmission, substation or major electrical infrastructure assets
  • An electrical trade certificate, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Project Management or equivalent, or a relevant Engineering or Project Management degree
  • Experience coordinating construction works, contractors and site activities
  • Understanding of WHS and environmental requirements in a construction environment
  • Ability to inspect works against drawings, specifications, ITPs and commissioning documentation
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to resolve site-based technical or contractual issues
  • Knowledge of design documentation, project systems, site records and construction forms
  • Authorisation under Transgrid’s Safety Rules, or willingness to obtain this
  • Current NSW Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel or spend time away from base location as required
