VNI West is one of Australia’s most significant energy infrastructure projects and forms a critical part of the National Electricity Market’s transition to a cleaner and more reliable energy future. The project will deliver a new high-capacity transmission line connecting Victoria and New South Wales, strengthening the grid, improving energy reliability and enabling more renewable energy to enter the market. Led by Transgrid in partnership with energy agencies and stakeholders, VNI West will support Australia’s transition to net zero by increasing network capacity, improving system resilience and helping deliver affordable and sustainable energy to communities across the east coast. 

 

About the role

 

The Substation Design Manager plays a key role in delivering the VNI West Major Project, leading the coordination and delivery of high voltage substation and transmission line design activities. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the role ensures designs meet Transgrid standards, regulatory requirements and project delivery objectives while supporting safe, reliable and cost effective infrastructure outcomes. You will work closely with engineering teams, project delivery partners and external design providers to deliver high quality design solutions in line with project timelines.

 

About you

 

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with engineering, project and delivery teams to achieve project outcomes
  • Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence technical and project decisions
  • A proactive and solutions focused approach with the ability to identify risks and support practical design solutions
  • Experience supporting continuous improvement and innovation within design processes and project delivery
  • Strong technical capability in substation or transmission design within major infrastructure or energy projects.
