Are you an WHS professional who specialises in designing, governing and improving safety management systems?
We are looking for a WHS Safety Systems and Compliance Specialist to take ownership of our Health, Safety and Environment Management System (HSEMS), with a strong focus on authoring high-quality standards and procedures, system governance, and continuous improvement.
This role suits someone who can apply rigour and scrutiny to HSE documentation while ensuring outputs are operationally practical and fit for purpose, aligned to an ISO 45001 accredited management system and able to stand up to audit, assurance and regulatory review.
What you will do
You will be the custodian of our HSE Management System, responsible for the development, review and governance of documented system processes and their continuous improvement across the business.
Key responsibilities include:
- Authoring, reviewing and maintaining HSE policies, standards and procedures within the documented management system
- Applying appropriate scrutiny to uplift the quality, consistency and usability of system documentation, ensuring processes are fit for purpose, operationally practical and aligned to legislative and ISO requirements, as well as other applicable standards
- Working in consultation with operational leaders and subject matter experts (internal and external) to develop and refine or develop new system processes
- Managing multiple documentation workstreams concurrently to deliver high-quality outputs within required timeframes
- Translating WHS legislation and standards into clear, structured system requirements and procedures
- Managing document control processes and HSEMS governance arrangements
- Managing and maintaining the Health and Safety Legal Compliance Register, including periodic legislative monitoring and change management
- Coordinating ISO certification audits and supporting system assurance activities
- Administering and improving the use of digital HSE platforms to support efficient implementation of documented system processes
- Providing specialist advice on HSE management systems, compliance and assurance
What you will bring
You are known for your strong technical writing skills and your ability to bring clarity and structure to complex safety environments.
You will ideally have:
- Tertiary qualifications in quality, health and safety or environment
- Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining HSE policies, procedures and supporting documentation in addition to document control
- Strong working knowledge of WHS and/or environmental legislation and standards
- Proven experience in document governance and compliance frameworks including but not limited to ISO 45001
- High attention to detail and excellent written communication skills
- Confidence influencing stakeholders in a complex organisation
- Understanding of H&S or Environmental auditing
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and digital document systems
