Transgrid is seeking an experienced Senior Power Systems Engineer to take a leading role in the modelling, analysis and strategic development of the high-voltage transmission network across NSW. This position is critical to ensuring Transgrid’s network planning strategies and long-term objectives are delivered safely, efficiently and in alignment with the evolving National Electricity Market.
Working across the Network Planning business unit, you will be responsible for developing and reviewing robust power system models, producing high-quality technical reports and providing sound forecasts and recommendations to inform investment and operational decisions.
The role requires close collaboration with internal teams as well as strong engagement with external stakeholders such as DNSPs, Generators, AEMO and the AER.
From a technical perspective, you will lead and review complex transmission system studies, conduct options analysis for both network and non-network solutions, and develop and document power system analysis methodologies. You will manage planning and system data, support PowerFactory or PSS®E studies, and develop or review analytical tools and scripts using Python. A strong understanding of the National Electricity Market, relevant legislation and planning standards is essential.
To be successful, you will
- Hold tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering or a related discipline (or equivalent experience) and
- Bring extensive experience in electricity transmission system analysis and development.
- You will have excellent knowledge of electrical network engineering and operations, strong risk management capability, and well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills.
- You will also demonstrate clear and persuasive written and verbal communication skills, have experience working within quality assurance frameworks, and the ability to operate effectively in a highly matrixed environment.
- Postgraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline are desirable.
