Senior Planning Engineer - Strategic Network Development

The Opportunity

As Senior Planning Engineer Strategic Network Development, you will be responsible for taking a leading role in the optioneering and scoping, analysis, and provision of recommendations for high voltage transmission system developments to ensure Transgrid’s strategies and objectives are met. The electricity network is currently facing significant challenges, as it facilitates decarbonisation with the growth of large-scale renewables seeking connection to the grid and the accelerated retirement of traditional coal generation. Over the next 10 years, it is estimated that over $8 billion will be committed to major transmission projects directly related to the planning, project specification and sponsorship that you could spearhead in this role.

You will implement and develop options in line with power systems analysis strategies and plans for long term network developments, working closely with other network service providers and assessing the feasibility of new technology to optimise cost, risk and performance. Working across the Network Planning and Operations business unit, the Senior Engineer will author or review robust technical reports, develop project planning schedules, network models and support and/or undertake power system analysis.

About You

• Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
• Extensive experience in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems
• Solid communication skills to be ablet to communicate with a range of persons including customers, suppliers, contractors, other technical experts and senior management
• Substantial experience in the legislation and technical standards guiding system planning with extensive knowledge of national and international planning standards and practices
• Comprehensive understanding of risk management – qualitative and quantitative
