The Opportunity

 

The Senior Design Engineer – High Voltage plays a critical role in delivering high-quality design solutions for high voltage electrical systems. This role will see you lead and deliver high voltage primary system designs, including single line diagrams, substation layouts, lightning protection, earthing, and related calculations, while coordinating internal teams and design consultants to ensure project objectives are met.

 

You will work autonomously on complex projects, providing expert technical solutions, guidance, and mentorship to other team members.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Perform and review and approve high voltage designs in accordance with Australian and IEC standards, as well as Transgrid technical requirements.
  • Complete detailed design calculations including short circuit forces, conductor sizing, lighting and lightning protection studies.
  • Manage or complete studies in specialist areas such as earthing, noise, electric and magnetic fields, corona performance, insultation coordination or power coordination.
  • Prepare and review or manage feasibility studies to determine HV design requirements for proposed projects.

 

About You

 

  • Degree qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in high voltage design across all functional areas of transmission network substations.
  • Experience overseeing the completion of designs to meet project requirements and timeframes.
  • Ability to complete, review and approve project designs with both internal teams and external consultants and contractors.
  • Proficiency with engineering business systems and design software, preferably Bentley ProjectWise and MicroStation.
