Senior Data Analyst

Date: 16 Aug 2026

Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia

At Transgrid, data plays a critical role in helping us plan, make better decisions and deliver for the communities we serve.

We’re looking for a Senior Data Analyst to join our People & Culture team and partner closely with Strategic Workforce Planning and the Data, Systems & Insights team. This is a hands-on analytics role where you’ll turn complex workforce data into clear, meaningful insights that influence workforce strategy, planning and business decisions.

You’ll work across workforce trends, forecasting, reporting and scenario modelling, helping leaders understand what our workforce looks like today, what it may look like tomorrow, and what we need to do to prepare.

If you enjoy solving problems with data, building useful Power BI solutions, working with SQL and Excel, and turning analysis into a story that people can act on, this could be the role for you.

Shape strategic workforce planning

  • Partner with the Strategic Workforce Planning team to develop workforce planning models, analytical frameworks and insights that support long-term workforce decisions.
  • Analyse workforce demand, supply, capability, movement, vacancies, retention and workforce risks.
  • Support supply and demand scenario modelling, forecasting and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Identify emerging workforce trends, risks and opportunities and translate them into practical insights for leaders.
  • Enhance existing workforce planning Power BI models, forecasting approaches and analytical outputs.

Turn data into actionable insights

  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards, data models and reporting solutions that improve workforce visibility and decision making.
  • Extract, cleanse, transform and analyse data using Power BI, SQL and advanced Excel.
  • Build scalable reporting frameworks and data models for strategic and operational needs.
  • Use DAX, Power Query and data modelling to create effective measures, calculations and visualisations.
  • Query, join, validate and analyse data across multiple systems using SQL.
  • Translate complex datasets into clear insights, trends, risks, opportunities and recommendations for a range of audiences.

We’re looking for someone who combines strong technical analytics capability with curiosity, commercial thinking and excellent stakeholder skills.

Essential

  • Experience in a Senior Data Analyst, Reporting Analyst, Workforce Analyst or similar role.
  • Strong Power BI capability, including dashboard development, data modelling, DAX, Power Query and visual storytelling.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, lookups, pivot tables, Power Query, data cleansing and reconciliation.
  • Strong SQL skills, including querying, joining, transforming and validating datasets.
  • Experience working with large and complex datasets, with a strong focus on data quality and accuracy.

Desirable

  • Experience with Python for data analysis, automation or process improvement.
  • Experience in strategic workforce planning, workforce planning, workforce analytics or insights.
  • Experience with SAP SuccessFactors, HRIS, Finance, operational or enterprise reporting systems.

You’ll be:

  • Practical and hands-on – happy to get into the detail and work directly in Excel, Power BI and SQL.
  • Curious and analytical – naturally asks “why?” and looks beyond the numbers to understand what they mean.
  • Business focused – understands that the best analysis is analysis that helps people make better decisions.
  • A great storyteller – can simplify complex analysis and communicate it in a clear, human and commercially relevant way.
  • Comfortable with change – enjoys improving reporting foundations in an environment where systems, tools and data processes are continuing to mature.
