Senior Contract Manager
Date: 25 Mar 2026
Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia
Company: TransGrid
Lead the commercial strategy behind some of Australia’s most significant energy infrastructure projects.
Transgrid is transforming Australia’s high-voltage transmission network to power the energy transition. Our Delivery division is executing a multi-billion dollar capital program spanning transmission lines, substations, renewable energy zones and interconnectors across NSW and the ACT. These are complex, long-duration infrastructure projects that demand commercially sharp, delivery-focused leadership.
We’re looking for a Senior Contract Manager with deep experience across the full project delivery lifecycle — from upstream strategy through to downstream execution and close-out. This is a high-impact leadership role where you’ll drive commercial outcomes on projects valued between $500 million and $1 billion+.
What You’ll Do
Upstream – Strategy, Procurement & Commercial Structuring
- Lead the development of procurement and delivery strategies, commercial frameworks and contract models for major infrastructure projects.
- Shape KPI structures, incentive/penalty mechanisms and risk-sharing arrangements that drive performance and protect Transgrid’s commercial position.
- Partner with the Procurement team to develop, negotiate and execute contracts with delivery partners, EPC contractors and specialist suppliers.
- Ensure regulatory requirements and industry-specific challenges are understood and embedded into commercial strategies from the outset.
Downstream – Contract Execution, Performance & Close-Out
- Manage contractual obligations across the project lifecycle, ensuring delivery partners meet performance, program and financial targets.
- Work closely with Project Controls to monitor cost, schedule and performance, compiling dashboards and KPI reporting for executive and SteerCo visibility.
- Oversee project legal functions, ensuring contracts remain commercially and legally aligned, and resolve disputes and claims in collaboration with the legal team.
- Prepare and deliver monthly project status reports and commercial performance updates to the Project Director, Commercial Director and Executive Committee.
- Manage and control project budgets within approved guidelines, ensuring commercial responsiveness across all delivery activities.
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead a team of Contract Managers and Contract Administrators.
- Build commercial capability across the wider project team through coaching, mentoring and the development of training programs.
- Drive a high-performance, continuous improvement culture within the commercial function.
What You Bring
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Business, Law, Quantity Surveying or a related discipline.
- Proven track record leading commercial and contract management on infrastructure projects or programs valued at $500M+ — ideally across energy, transmission, renewables, transport or heavy civil sectors.
- Demonstrated experience across both upstream (procurement strategy, contract development, negotiation) and downstream (contract administration, claims, variations, close-out) phases of project delivery.
- Experience working in regional and remote project environments.
- Strong capability managing EPC, alliance, design-and-construct or other complex delivery models.
- Proven leadership in managing Financial, Procurement and Contract Management teams.
- Excellent influencing, negotiation and stakeholder management skills at senior levels.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving ability with strong commercial acumen.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distil complex commercial issues into clear executive-level messaging.
Why Transgrid?
Transgrid owns and operates the high-voltage electricity transmission network in NSW and the ACT, connecting generators, distributors and major end users. We’re delivering one of Australia’s largest energy infrastructure investment programs — building the transmission backbone for the country’s transition to renewable energy.
- High-impact commercial leadership on nationally significant projects ($500M–$1B+).
- A seat at the table — direct reporting to the Commercial Director with executive visibility.
- The opportunity to shape commercial strategy across the full delivery lifecycle.
- A values-driven culture built on Safety, Achievement, Integrity and Service.
- Flexible working arrangements and genuine investment in your career growth.
