Project Manager
Date: 9 May 2026
Location: Sydney, Australia
Company: TransGrid

Permanent Full-Time | Sydney / Newcastle / NSW‑wide
Australia’s energy system is undergoing the most profound transformation in its history. Transgrid is central to this transition, responsible for planning, delivering and operating the high voltage transmission infrastructure that underpins New South Wales’ shift to a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
We are seeking a Project Manager with clear accountability for delivery. This is a leadership role focused on execution. You will be responsible for directing multidisciplinary teams, managing complex contractor and stakeholder interfaces, and driving programme performance to achieve safety, schedule, cost and quality outcomes on nationally significant infrastructure projects.
The role spans live high voltage transmission assets from 132kV through to 500kV, including substations and switching stations across NSW. It requires a professional who brings sound engineering judgement, strong commercial discipline and the confidence to make decisions in a high consequence delivery environment. If you are motivated by responsibility, complexity and impact, this role presents an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the future of Australia’s energy system.
A day in the Life of a Project Manager at Transgrid
As a Project Manager, you will have end to end accountability across the following:
- Full ownership of project delivery, including scope, schedule, cost, quality, risk and safety, across multiple concurrent work packages
- Building, developing and leading high performing project teams made up of engineers, coordinators and specialist contractors
- Providing programme leadership by establishing milestones, maintaining the critical path, producing credible forecasts and driving schedule recovery where required
- Managing EPC contractors, subcontractors and OEM partners with clear accountabilities for scope, deliverables and interface resolution
- Leading change and risk management through early identification of scope creep, disciplined management of variations and extensions of time, and active use of risk registers to protect delivery outcomes
- Overseeing construction activities on live high voltage sites, including outage coordination, permit management, access constraints, safety hold points and daily progress assurance
- Delivering clear, well-structured reporting to senior leadership and project governance forums, with a forward looking perspective supported by options and recommendations
- Setting the standard for safety leadership across the project through visible leadership, active participation in safety processes and a culture where early escalation is expected and supported
- Managing project budgets, forecasts and commercial outcomes with a clear understanding of programme interdependencies and contractual obligations
- Coordinating across design, construction, commercial, environmental and regulatory workstreams to maintain alignment and momentum throughout delivery
About You
This role requires a leader with strong technical credibility and disciplined management capability, able to deliver results in a complex and high consequence project environment. You will bring confidence, judgement and accountability, with a proven ability to lead major infrastructure delivery from concept through to completion.
The following capabilities are essential:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, including Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or a related discipline
- Postgraduate qualification in Project Management or professional certification through PMP or AIPM
- A minimum of 5 to 10 years of progressive project delivery experience
- Proven experience delivering complex infrastructure or energy projects from planning through to successful completion
- Strong ownership of scope, schedule, cost, quality and risk across multiple concurrent work packages
- Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary teams, including contractors and matrixed resources
- Hands on experience overseeing construction activities in live site environments, including high voltage transmission, substations, or large scale civil and electrical works
- A strong track record in managing construction milestones, developing reliable forecasts and escalating delays early to protect delivery outcomes
- Significant experience managing EPC contractors, Tier 1 and Tier 2 contractors and OEM suppliers, with clear control of scope and interfaces
- Proven capability managing RFIs, NCRs, variations, extensions of time and claims with a pragmatic and outcomes focused approach
- Strong change control discipline and commercial awareness, including management of scope creep, budget tracking and cost and schedule impacts
- Active and disciplined use of risk registers to drive mitigation strategies and safeguard delivery outcomes
- Demonstrated safety leadership, underpinned by a strong understanding of high voltage and construction safety, permit systems and site access requirements
- Experience managing quality processes, including inspection and test plans, hold points, defect close out and handover documentation
- Clear and confident stakeholder communication skills, with the ability to brief senior leadership and present issues with structured options and recommendations
