At TransGrid, we’re at the centre of it – building, operating, and maintaining the high-voltage transmission network that connects New South Wales to the national electricity grid. Our work enables the large-scale integration of renewable energy, strengthens supply reliability, and supports the communities that depend on us.
We’re looking for a Project Development Engineer to join our Development & Delivery Projects team in Sydney and play a critical role in bringing transmission projects from concept to reality.
The Role
As Project Development Engineer, you’ll take ownership of the planning and development phase of transmission projects – the stage where strategic decisions are made, design options are evaluated, and project feasibility is established. You’ll be the driving force behind option studies, cost estimation, stakeholder coordination, and technical design management for projects that will shape the grid for decades to come.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading the development of multiple transmission projects through feasibility, options analysis, and firm offer submissions.
- Preparing comprehensive technical feasibility studies and scoping reports covering scope, cost, schedule, risk, environmental, property, and other stakeholder considerations.
- Coordinating project cost estimates across decision gates in line with TransGrid’s project management framework.
- Driving innovation and value engineering across the project lifecycle to optimise cost, safety, and operational performance.Developing and maintaining project schedules, risk registers, and work scopes for customer projects.
- Coordinating with internal engineering teams, external consultants, environmental specialists, and community stakeholders.
- Identifying outage requirements and integrating them into project plans.
- Reporting on project status and performance to Development Leads.
What You Bring
- A tertiary engineering degree in a relevant discipline (electrical, civil, structural, or related).
- Demonstrated experience coordinating engineering projects, including design management, environmental assessment, and stakeholder engagement.
- Proven ability to develop project schedules and cost estimates.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with excellent report writing and communication skills.
- Working knowledge of relevant Australian Standards, legislation, and government policy frameworks governing engineering design and environmental assessment.
- A current driver’s licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
What Will Set You Apart
- Experience in high-voltage transmission, substations, or large-scale energy infrastructure projects.
- Familiarity with regulatory and planning frameworks for major infrastructure in NSW.
- Exposure to the Integrated System Plan (ISP) or Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) delivery.
Why TransGrid
At TransGrid, you won’t just manage projects – you’ll help build the infrastructure that powers Australia’s future. Here’s what we offer:
- Purpose-driven work at the forefront of the energy transition.
- A collaborative, technically rigorous environment where your expertise is valued.
- Career development pathways and exposure to landmark transmission projects.
- Competitive remuneration and benefits.
