The opportunity
As Principal Estimator, you will work in close partnership with the Senior Manager, Estimation to provide enterprise‑level leadership in cost estimation across Transgrid’s Prescribed and Contestable portfolio.
The role supports and complements the Senior Manager, Estimation by providing deep technical authority, independent assurance, and strategic insight to enable confident executive and regulatory decision‑making.
What you'll do
- Set enterprise estimation standards and governance
- Assure and peer‑review major project estimates
- Advise executives on cost risk and uncertainty
- Escalate material risks and confidence issues
- Uplift estimation capability and practice
- Improve tools, data, and benchmarks
- Provide market and cost trend insights
About You
- Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline
- Extensive experience providing strategic cost leadership on major infrastructure programs, ideally in transmission and substation works
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with senior leaders
- Comfortable operating as a senior technical authority within a broader leadership model
- Recognised subject‑matter expertise in probabilistic estimating, risk modelling, and cost governance
- Experience with RIB MTWO, Palisade @Risk, and statistical analysis tools (highly regarded)
- Clear and confident communicator, experienced in presenting complex estimates to stakeholders.
