The Role

 

The electricity landscape is evolving rapidly. With large-scale renewable energy zones emerging and traditional coal generation retiring, the NSW network faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Over the next decade, more than $8 billion will be invested in major transmission projects that this role will directly influence. As Principal Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, strategic vision, and project sponsorship with stakeholders to ensure the network meets tomorrow’s energy demands.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Lead a high-performing team developing major power system projects, planning studies, market modelling, and planning specifications.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and sponsorship across NSW transmission projects, collaborating with Energy Co, AEMO, and other state Transmission Network Service Providers.
  • Drive strategic planning for renewable energy zone integration and major transmission development, ensuring alignment with national and state energy policies.
  • Influence and inspire internal teams and external stakeholders, fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Transgrid at technical conferences, regulatory consultations, and industry forums, shaping the future of energy infrastructure.

 

What We’re Looking For

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering (or equivalent). Ideally with (or working towards) professional registration (CPEng, RPEQ).
  • Deep expertise in electricity transmission system planning, market analysis, or project development.
  • Strong leadership skills, capable of inspiring teams and collaborating across a highly matrixed organisation and industry through joint planning.
  • Strategic thinker with advanced problem-solving, negotiation, communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Commitment to innovation, ethical practice, and a safe, inclusive workplace.
