Principal Engineer

Are you an industry expert in power system analysis with a passion for system strength and security? Transgrid is looking for a Principal Engineer to play a critical role in shaping the future of high-voltage transmission system developments and network connections.

About the Role

As a specialist in power systems analysis, you will provide expert advice on transmission system developments and network connections for both Transgrid and third-party customers. You will represent the Network Planning group at industry events, engaging with key stakeholders and presenting specialist technical reports.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead power system analysis initiatives, with a focus on System Strength and System Security
• Provide expert guidance on high-voltage transmission developments and network connections
• Collaborate across the Network business unit to drive innovation and efficiency
• Represent Transgrid at technical conferences, engaging with industry stakeholders
• Develop and implement long-term network planning strategies

About you

• Strong experience in power system and transmission planning.
• Solid experience in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems and modelling of renewable energy generators, batteries and synchronous machines, including expert in the use of PSCAD, PSSE and other software packages.
• Extensive experience with programming languages such as Python.
• Good understanding of synchronous and asynchronous generators operation and control. 
• Strong understanding of small signal modelling.
• Strong knowledge of the National Electricity Market including rules and regulations.
