We are seeking an experienced Portfolio Services Manager to lead project services across a diverse portfolio of Transgrid. This is a high‑impact role that enables enterprise‑wide delivery excellence, drives business improvement, and builds a high‑performing team at the centre of our project delivery engine.

 

The opportunity

Reporting to the Operations Director- Delivery Projects, this role is responsible for coordinating and elevating project services across the portfolio—ensuring project management lifecycle consistency, effective resourcing, robust governance, and seamless project close‑out and handover.

You will lead a specialist team (up to 8 direct reports), partner closely with Project Directors and senior stakeholders, and act as the connective tissue between Operations, Governance, Quality, Project Controls, Asset Management, Finance and Delivery leadership.

This role is ideal for a senior project services or portfolio professional who thrives in a complex, matrixed environment and enjoys turning strategy into operational reality.

 

Key accountabilities

 

Leadership & Culture

  • Champion Transgrid’s vision, values and safety‑first culture across the Delivery Projects portfolio
  • Inspire high performance, accountability and continuous improvement
  • Recruit, develop and retain a capable, future‑ready project services team
  • Drive delivery efficiency, commercial acumen and professional standards

 

Portfolio & Resource Management

  • Own portfolio‑wide resource planning, onboarding and allocation across Delivery Projects
  • Partner with Finance and HR to plan workforce demand and optimise utilisation
  • Maintain consistent reporting, templates and SharePoint systems across projects

 

Project Close‑Out & Asset Handover

  • Lead shared services supporting project close‑out, asset handover and capitalisation
  • Ensure governance, quality, lessons learnt and PMF compliance throughout the lifecycle
  • Coordinate defect liability period resourcing with Operations and Maintenance teams
  • Deliver accurate, insightful monthly reporting on project completions

 

Business Improvements & Initiatives

  • Track, govern and report on Delivery Projects initiatives and business improvements
  • Lead the rollout, evaluation and continuous optimisation of initiatives
  • Support updates to the Project Management Framework and model specifications
  • Maintain Delivery Projects digital platforms and initiative reporting

 

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships across Delivery, Lumea, Asset Management, Finance, Engineering & Design and Governance
  • Influence outcomes across competing priorities in a highly matrixed environment
  • Represent Delivery Projects at forums and working groups as required

 

Health, Safety & Environment

  • Lead by example in safety, environmental compliance and wellbeing
  • Track and report contractor HSE metrics and mobilisation audits
  • Ensure systems and reporting support safe project delivery

 

About you

 

You are a confident leader with deep experience in project services, portfolio management or major project operations, and a proven ability to bring structure, consistency and momentum to complex delivery environments.

 

You will bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Advanced understanding of project management processes and systems
  • Strong experience in project close‑out, asset handover and capitalisation
  • Proven people and resource management capability
  • Exceptional stakeholder engagement, negotiation and communication skills
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to manage budgets, priorities and risk
  • A commitment to safety, integrity and continuous improvement
