The Opportunity
In your role as Intermediate Design Engineer, you will deliver designs and provide technical support for the implementation of Substation Control and Automation Systems, assist in the development of Transgrid secondary system standards, and ensure alignment with project objectives and compliance to stakeholder requirements and Australian and International standards as appropriate.
In addition, you will provide technical reviews on designs conducted by external design service providers.
What You’ll Do
- Design and review substation control, and automation systems for Transgrid projects.
- Provide technical advice, develop Transgrid standards, and prepare design documentation for control and automation systems.
- Support commissioning, installation, construction, fault investigations, and perform system studies (e.g., SCADA, utility system communication protocol, automation network, transformer AVR, Reactive Plant Controller, condition monitoring).
- Review specifications, drawings, and design documents; consult with stakeholders and subject matter experts as needed.
- Plan and manage design deliverables, budgets, schedules, and procurement inputs to ensure project objectives are met.
About You
- Degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) with experience in substation control, automation, and protection system design.
- Knowledge of control systems, automation network, HV plant and switchgear, and relevant Australian/International standards.
- Familiarity with substation automation, secondary systems architecture, communication protocols, and cyber security requirements.
- Proficiency in substation automation system like zenon, clearSCADA, geoSCADA, CGI or equivalent, and experience with IED and network configurations.
- Strong ability to manage and review designs, ensure compliance, and collaborate effectively within teams, stakeholders and with external consultants.
