The Opportunity

 

The Civil and Structural Drafter/Engineering Officer position will see you responsible for delivering high-quality civil and structural designs for transmission substation infrastructure projects by producing accurate drawings, models, and documentation using advanced CAD and BIM tools aligned with project objectives and stakeholder requirements. This role involves providing expert technical advice, preparing detailed reports and documentation, and contributing to the development and maintenance of design standards.

 

The role also contributes to Transgrid’s strategic transition from 2D drafting to 3D modelling and digital engineering.

 

What You’ll Do

 

  • Prepare and review detailed substation civil and structural drawings complying to relevant Australian and Transgrid technical standards
  • Assist in developing and maintaining 3D models and digital twins for prescribed and non-prescribed projects.
  • Ensure designs approved for construction comply with relevant legislation, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Update or create design standards and related documentation to ensure continued compliance to standards and industry best practice.
  • Advise and train others in the use of drafting tools.

 

About You

 

  • Diploma or higher in Structural, Civil, or related engineering discipline.
  • Strong civil/structural substation design experience with proficiency in major design/drafting software including MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Open Roads, Navisworks etc
  • Ability to plan, manage and deliver drafting/design services across multiple projects to schedule, budget and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with BIM workflows, digital engineering platforms, and document control systems (e.g., ProjectWise).
  • Understanding of Safety in Design requirements, with exposure to AI-assisted design or automation tools.
