As a System Operator, you’ll be monitoring and managing the high-voltage transmission network in real time, working closely with colleagues, field crews, engineers, and AEMO to keep the system running safely and efficiently. You’ll have a front-row seat to some of the biggest transformations in the energy sector while operating in a fast-paced, technically rich environment.

On any given shift, you could be:

  • Supervising or directing planned outages and switching operations.
  • Monitoring voltages, fault levels, and load flows to ensure network stability.
  • Responding to alarms and unplanned events, making quick, sound decisions under pressure.
  • Liaising with AEMO and other market participants to coordinate outages.
  • Providing clear instructions to field staff and emergency responders.
  • Supporting the preparation and review of outage plans, HV PRIs, and contingency procedures.
  • Contributing to procedure updates and adopting new technologies that support smarter operations.

Throughout your shift, you’ll be supported by a close-knit and highly skilled team of operators and engineers who share a strong safety culture, technical excellence, and pride in their work.

About You

You’re a technically capable, calm under pressure, and solutions-focused professional who enjoys solving complex operational problems. You thrive in structured, high-responsibility environments and are driven by the idea of doing meaningful work that impacts the entire state.

We’re interested in hearing from candidates who have:

  • An Advanced Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering (or are actively working toward it).
  • Experience with high-voltage systems, network operations, switching, or control room environments.
  • Strong understanding of transmission equipment, protection and control systems, and network safety protocols.
  • Working knowledge of Power System Safety Rules and switching instruction preparation.
  • The ability to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Effective communication skills with confidence in liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Competency in using SCADA or EMS platforms and Windows-based systems.

You may currently be working as a Network Operator, HV Switching Technician, Protection and Control Technician, or in a similar role within a utility, AEMO, or industrial setting.
