About the opportunity

 

You’ll be joining the Operations Analysis team, analysing the operational capability of Transgrid’s electricity network within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and providing operational advice to support safe, secure and efficient operation of the network. You will contribute specialist power systems analysis and operational advice. Your work will support the development of clear and accurate operational documentation, with a focus on supporting both real-time and forward-looking operational decision-making.

 

The role involves contributing to the development and implementation of power system operational strategies and working closely with internal stakeholders, AEMO and other Network Service Providers. You will also support the improvement of network performance, cost and risk.

 

You will operate with a high degree of technical autonomy while receiving guidance on more complex or novel issues and will contribute to knowledge-sharing and mentoring within the team.

 

Please note, this role can be based in either Eastern Creek or Newcastle.

 

About you

 

You are an experienced power systems engineer with strong analytical capability and a proven ability to deliver high-quality technical analysis and operational advice.

 

Essential requirements

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (degree level or higher)
  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems and power system analysis
  • Experience in either:
    • The use, development, management and operation of EMS and SCADA, or
    • Power system analysis software such as PSS®E or PowerFactory
  • Well-developed experience producing clear and accurate operational documentation
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders

 

Desirable requirements

 

  • Working knowledge of the National Electricity Rules (NER)
  • Knowledge of electricity network protection and control systems
  • Experience with Python scripting for analysis, automation or modelling tasks
  • Experience working with AEMO and/or other Network Service Providers
