The Opportunity
As a Real Time Support Engineer, you’ll be at the heart of Transgrid’s operations, ensuring the safe and efficient management of our high-voltage network. Reporting to the Control Centre Manager, you will be responsible for the creation of operating manuals, work instructions and procedures to support the Control Room in the real time operation of the Power System.
In this role, you will play a key role in refining operational procedures and policies to enhance efficiency and adapt to a rapidly evolving grid. With the increasing integration of renewable energy, this position offers an exciting challenge—balancing outage planning, system complexity, and stakeholder needs to drive the future of energy.
A Day in the Life as a Real Time Support Engineer at Transgrid
- Provide advice to control room staff during network outages and system emergencies.
- Support the Performing of Power System studies and create Contingency Plans for outages impacting the Power System.
- Creation of Operating Manuals, Work Instructions and Procedures to support the Control Room in the real time operation of the Power System
- Provide professional engineering and technical advice associated with accessing and operating an evolving high voltage network
- Maintain and refine procedures, manuals, and policies to enhance efficiency and adapt to evolving system conditions.
About you
- A breadth of expertise in high voltage and secondary equipment used in power systems; power system protection; automatic control systems and their application in power system operation.
- Strong understanding of safe work systems and risk management complimented with a proven ability to analyse and optimize power system operations
- Knowledge in energy market, power system analysis, and operational planning
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
- A background in navigating the increasing complexity of the high-voltage network and experience responding effectively to unexpected system challenges.
Success in this role requires a blend of technical expertise, strategic planning, stakeholder engagement, and leadership.
