THE OPPORTUNITY
We're looking for a Project Cost Controller to join our Delivery team and take ownership of cost management and controls across a portfolio of high-value capital projects including critical Lumea energy infrastructure programs. This is your opportunity to sit at the intersection of financial performance and physical delivery, working on projects that are reshaping Australia's energy grid.
Reporting to the Program Controls Manager, you'll work across forecasting, variance analysis, change control, and reporting building deep technical expertise in a role that's genuinely consequential. This is an individual contributor role designed for a professional who takes pride in technical depth, data-driven insights, and partnering closely with project and commercial teams to keep delivery on track.
A DAY IN THE LIFE
- Forecasting & Cost Management: Building and maintaining project cost forecasts aligned to schedules, commitments, and resource plans across multi-disciplinary teams.
- Cost Variance Analysis: Identifying and investigating period, financial year, and whole-of-life variances then translating them into actionable insights for project leadership.
- Change & Contingency Control: Monitoring and capturing changes to project scope, maintaining Change Registers, and tracking contingency drawdowns in close collaboration with Contract Managers.
- Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement: Preparing monthly cost reports, controls presentations, and contributing to end-of-month reviews with senior project and finance stakeholders.
- Earned Value Management: Supporting EVM and Earned Value Assessment processes, providing data and analysis that underpins project performance decisions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering daily with Project Managers, Planners, Commercial, Engineering, Construction, and Finance teams for integrated cost outcomes.

ABOUT YOU — ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
You'll bring a combination of technical controls expertise, commercial acumen, and the interpersonal skills to work effectively across complex, multi-disciplinary project environments.
- Tertiary qualifications in a closely related discipline (Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Commerce, or similar) or equivalent relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in project controls with direct accountability for cost and forecast management, budgeting, and reporting for capital projects.
- Experience in cost and project controls within a capital-intensive industry (energy, infrastructure, resources, or construction).
- Strong financial acumen with analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to investigate root causes of cost deviations.
- Familiarity with project and cost management standards and practices such as AACE, PMBOK, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, with strong reporting and data analysis capabilities.
- Experience with project controls reporting tools and enterprise systems (e.g., SAP, Primavera, or similar).
- Understanding of Earned Value Management principles and practical application.
- Solid stakeholder management, interpersonal, and communication skills with the ability to work across multiple disciplines.
Highly Desirable:
- Experience in the power industry and/or large substation and transmission line projects.
- Familiarity with Transgrid's project delivery environment or similar NSW/ACT energy infrastructure programs.
- Exposure to Lumea project frameworks or similar capital delivery programs.
