About the opportunity

 

You’ll be joining the Operations Analysis team, which analyses the operational capability of Transgrid’s electricity network within the National Electricity Market (NEM) and provides critical operational advice. The team plays a key role in ensuring the network operates safely, securely and efficiently. You will be a technical authority in power systems analysis, providing specialist expertise across network modelling, analysis and forecasting.

 

Your scope will include market constraints, the preparation of clear and robust operational documentation, and the delivery of expert technical advice to support real-time and forward-looking operations.

 

The role also involves leading the development and implementation of power system operational strategies. You will work closely with AEMO and other Network Service Providers, and optimise network performance, cost and risk.

 

In addition, you will act in the Manager/Team Lead roles during periods of leave and provide technical leadership and mentoring to the team as required.

 

Please note, this role can be based in either Eastern Creek or Newcastle.

 

About you

 

You are a recognised subject matter expert in power systems analysis and/or modelling, with the capability to deliver high-quality specialist advice, analysis and reporting.

 

Essential requirements

 

  • Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (Bachelor degree level or higher)
  • Extensive experience in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems
  • Demonstrated experience in energy market operational planning and power system analysis
  • Experience in either:
    • The use, development, management and operation of EMS and SCADA, or
    • Power system analysis software such as PSS®E or PowerFactory
  • Strong written communication skills, with demonstrated experience producing clear, concise and accurate operational documentation
  • Well-developed interpersonal and service management skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders

 

Desirable requirements

 

  • Extensive working knowledge of the National Electricity Rules (NER)
  • Knowledge of electricity network protection and control systems
  • Experience with Python scripting for analysis, automation or modelling tasks
  • Experience working closely with AEMO and/or other Network Service Providers
