About the opportunity
You’ll be joining the Operations Analysis team, analysing the operational capability of Transgrid’s electricity network and providing advice to support the safe, secure and efficient operation of the network. You will support power systems analysis activities across network modelling, analysis and forecasting. You will contribute to market constraint analysis and the preparation of clear and accurate operational documentation, supporting both real-time operations and outage planning activities.
The role provides strong exposure to power system operations and the National Electricity Market. You will work closely with more senior engineers, AEMO and other Network Service Providers, and contribute to the improvement of network performance, cost and risk.
This role is well suited to an engineer who is building depth in power systems analysis and operational decision-making and is looking to develop towards senior technical roles.
Please note, this role can be based in either Eastern Creek or Newcastle.
About you
You are an early-career to mid-career power systems engineer with strong analytical skills and a desire to develop expertise in electricity network operations.
Essential requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering (degree level or higher)
- Foundational experience or strong exposure to electricity transmission systems
- Knowledge of power system analysis principles and electricity network operations
- Experience in either:
- Energy Management Systems (EMS) and SCADA, or
- Power system analysis software such as PSS®E or PowerFactory
- The ability to produce clear and accurate operational documentation with guidance
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
Desirable requirements
- Basic understanding of the National Electricity Market and the National Electricity Rules (NER)
- Exposure to electricity network protection and control systems
- Exposure to Python scripting for analysis or automation
