Asset Portfolio Investment Manager
Date: 14 May 2026
Location: Sydney - Eastern Creek, NSW, Australia
Company: TransGrid
About the role
The Asset Portfolio Investment Manager is responsible for leading the strategic management and optimisation of TransGrid’s prescribed asset investment portfolio across both capital and operational expenditure. This role ensures that investment decisions across the existing network are commercially sound, technically robust, and aligned with risk, reliability, and regulatory requirements.
You will take ownership of portfolio-level planning, investment prioritisation, and program optimisation, balancing Capex, Opex, risk, and lifecycle performance outcomes. Working across a complex matrix environment, you will partner closely with Asset directors, Finance, Engineering, Delivery, and Executive stakeholders to shape and deliver the annual Program of Work and long-term investment strategy.
About you
You are a commercially astute and technically credible asset or infrastructure leader with deep experience across the full asset lifecycle. You bring a strong track record in portfolio management, capital planning, or asset investment governance within complex, regulated infrastructure environments.
You are comfortable operating at both strategic and detailed levels—interpreting technical asset data, building investment narratives, and influencing senior stakeholders to support evidence-based decisions. You combine strong analytical capability with sound judgement and are confident managing competing priorities across large, multi-million-dollar programs.
You will bring:
- Experience in asset management, infrastructure investment, or capital portfolio optimisation
- Strong understanding of Capex/Opex trade-offs and lifecycle asset planning
- Exposure to regulated environments and regulatory submissions (e.g. RIT-T or similar frameworks)
- Ability to lead planning, prioritisation, and governance of complex programs of work
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills across executive, technical, and commercial groups
- Demonstrated capability in risk-based decision-making and asset performance optimisation
This role sits at the centre of how TransGrid invests in, maintains, and evolves its transmission network. Every decision influences the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of critical energy infrastructure across NSW and beyond.
By ensuring that investment is targeted, prioritised, and optimised, you directly shape how effectively the network supports Australia’s energy transition. The role ensures scarce capital is directed to the right assets at the right time—balancing safety, compliance, reliability, and cost in an increasingly complex energy system.
In short, this role ensures that billions of dollars in infrastructure investment deliver real value to customers, regulators, and the broader energy market.
Selection criteria
To be successful, you will demonstrate:
- Tertiary qualification in Engineering, Commerce, Economics or equivalent
- Extensive experience in infrastructure asset management, investment planning, or portfolio governance
- Proven ability to develop and manage Capex and Opex programs across asset-intensive organisations
- Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks and investment approval processes
- Experience developing investment papers, business cases, and regulatory submissions
- Strong financial and analytical capability, including modelling and forecasting
- Strong stakeholder management capability across internal and external industry partners
