About the role

 

The Design Manager - Substations will play a key role in the Hunter Transmission Project (HTP), delivering critical transmission infrastructure that supports renewable energy integration and network reliability. You will lead the technical assurance, governance and delivery of substation civil design packages, managing designs through review and assurance processes to ensure compliance with project, contractual and Transgrid requirements. Working closely with contractors, consultants and internal stakeholders, you will coordinate multidisciplinary reviews, resolve technical issues and contribute to the successful delivery of this landmark energy infrastructure project.

 

 

About you 

 

You are an experienced Civil Engineer with a strong background in the design and delivery of high-voltage substations and major electrical infrastructure projects.  You have strong technical expertise, including the ability to undertake high-level design reviews and assess contractor and consultant deliverables. With excellent communication, stakeholder management, negotiation and problem-solving skills, you build effective relationships across multidisciplinary teams. You demonstrate sound technical judgement and thrive in complex project environments. Other requirements include:

  • Degree qualification in Civil Engineering.
  • Experience in substation civil design, including earthworks, drainage, roads, foundations, structures and underground services.
  • Experience managing design packages through development, review, assurance and construction support.
  • Working knowledge of design management, quality assurance, Safety in Design and engineering risk management.

 

Desirable

  • Experience with 330kV or 500kV substations, switching stations or transmission infrastructure.
  • Experience delivering major transmission or utility projects under D&C, EPC or Delivery Partner models.
  • Previous design management or technical assurance experience.
