The Opportunity  

 

We are looking for a Data Analyst to join our Economics and Forecasting team at Ultimo. In this role, you will play a key part in coordinating the preparation of electrical load forecasts for the NSW region, supporting major planning and regulatory processes, and contributing to the insights that guide Transgrid’s long‑term network strategy.  

 

You will work closely with AEMO, DNSPs, EnergyCo, major customers, and internal teams to ensure our forecasting models, methodologies, and datasets are accurate and reliable. Your work will include analysing DNSP load forecast data, reviewing forecast accuracy, analysing the accuracy of TUOS datasets used for system loss calculations, and assisting with RIO reporting and audits. You will also help improve forecasting tools, highlight differences between modelling approaches, and contribute to continuous improvement across the team.

About You   

 

You are analytical, curious, and comfortable working with complex data. You enjoy understanding how systems work, identifying trends, and translating insights into meaningful recommendations. You communicate clearly, collaborate effectively, and take pride in producing high‑quality work.  

 

You will also bring:  

  

  • A degree in engineering, economics, statistics, business, or another quantitative discipline 

  • Knowledge of applied mathematics, economics, or statistics 

  • Understanding of electrical load forecasting methodologies 

  • Strong communication and presentation skills 

  • Understanding of electricity markets, networks, or energy economics 

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse complex datasets using spreadsheets or other analytical tools 

  • Proficiency with MS Office and experience using statistical packages such as EViews or R  

  

Desirable skills include:  

  

  • Knowledge of NSW transmission network and metering issues 

  • Experience forecasting in the energy sector or similar industries 

  • Coding skills for forecasting models
