Contracts Manager

Date: 23 May 2026

Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia

Company: TransGrid

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network powering homes, businesses, and communities.

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Contracts Manager with a strong quantity surveying foundation to join our Delivery Project team. This role is central to ensuring our capital works program is commercially successful by providing end-to-end contract management, administration, and commercial services across one or more of our high-voltage transmission projects. Ideally, you bring experience across both upstream and downstream phases of the project delivery landscape from early-stage procurement and tendering through to construction, commissioning, and close-out. Based in Sydney with potential travel to regional and remote project sites, you will report directly to the Commercial Director and work closely with project teams, delivery partners, and key internal stakeholders.

A Day in the Life

  • Managing the full lifecycle of large-scale construction contracts, including variations, extensions of time, notices, and claims, ensuring all contractual obligations are tracked and met.
  • Applying your quantity surveying expertise to assess contractor claims, value variations, and validate cost submissions against contract provisions and project budgets.
  • Collaborating with project teams to substantiate and issue variations, and tracking them against contract funding and contingency allocations.
  • Working with the Risk Manager to identify, document, and monitor contract and commercial risks within the overall project risk framework.
  • Coordinating with the Procurement Manager on tendering processes, tender evaluations, and contractor negotiations on pricing and commercial terms.
  • Supporting both upstream activities (early procurement strategy, tender documentation, contract formation) and downstream delivery (construction administration, progress claims, defects management, and contract close-out).
  • Preparing monthly project status reports and KPI dashboards for the Project Director and Commercial Director, covering cost, program, risk, and performance.
  • Maintaining contract registers, variation logs, and EOT registers to keep the project team informed of contractual deadlines and obligations.
  • Assisting with dispute resolution and claims management alongside contractors and delivery partners.

Why This Role Matters

Transgrid is delivering some of the most significant energy infrastructure projects in Australia right now. As Contracts Manager, you will directly influence the commercial outcomes of these projects, protecting Transgrid’s interests while fostering strong, collaborative relationships with our delivery partners. Your work ensures projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in alignment with our corporate strategy ultimately helping power millions of Australian homes and businesses.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 8+ years of experience managing large construction contracts, ideally in energy, utilities, or infrastructure sectors, with a strong quantity surveying or commercial management foundation.
  • Demonstrated experience across both upstream (procurement, tendering, contract formation) and downstream (construction delivery, progress claims, defects liability, close-out) phases of project delivery.
  • Proven track record delivering infrastructure projects or programs of works and achieving strong commercial outcomes.
  • Experience working in regional and remote project environments.
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, cost estimation, measurement, variations, claims, and dispute resolution processes.
  • Highly proficient in business systems and MS Office, with strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • A collaborative team player who builds trusted relationships with internal teams and external contractors alike.
  • A commercially driven mindset with attention to detail and an ability to manage competing priorities.
