The Opportunity

Are you an experienced Commissioning Manager with a passion for driving large-scale energy projects?  We’re looking for an experienced and results-driven Commissioning Manager to play a key role in one of our most critical infrastructure projects.

 

As a Commissioning Manager, you will oversee the end-to-end commissioning of synchronous condensers, managing on-site activities, technical integration, and compliance within the National Electricity Market (NEM). You will lead cross-functional teams, engage with key stakeholders, and ensure a seamless transition from commissioning to operational handover.

 

This is a high-impact leadership role, requiring you to provide strategic direction, mitigate risks, and drive efficiency across multiple project sites. You will be the technical and strategic lead in ensuring the successful commissioning of synchronous condensers; critical assets that play a key role in enhancing grid stability and supporting Australia’s transition to renewable energy.

 

We are open to candidates being based out of either our Sydney Office or our Newcastle Depot.

 

A Day in the Life at Transgrid & What You’ll Be Doing

  • Commissioning & Project Execution: Develop and implement strategies to ensure the timely commissioning, energisation, and testing of synchronous condensers.
  • Stakeholder Management: Liaise with AEMO, TNSPs, DNSPs, and delivery partners to ensure smooth project integration.
  • Leadership & Team Development: Manage a team of engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
  • Governance & Compliance: Ensure all commissioning activities adhere to safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.
  • Risk & Cost Control: Monitor project budgets, mitigate risks, and optimise resource allocation.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation and efficiency in commissioning processes.

 

About You & What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, electrical preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years’ experience managing large-scale capital projects, particularly high-voltage substations, and transmission lines.
  • Strong expertise in project integration, testing, and commissioning.
  • Exceptional negotiation, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple stakeholders and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Experience in contract management and directing field teams.
