Commercial Manager

Date: 27 Feb 2026

Location: Sydney, NSW, Australia

Company: TransGrid

Lead the Contracts. Shape the Outcomes. Protect the Value.

At LUMEA™, we don’t just deliver infrastructure, we deliver certainty in complexity. We are seeking a commercially astute, strategically minded Commercial Manager who thrives at the intersection of upstream contracts and high-value project delivery.

This is more than a contracts role. It’s an opportunity to be the commercial guardian of a diverse portfolio driving governance, strengthening upstream negotiations, and ensuring downstream execution aligns with both strategy and risk appetite.

Make Your Mark Where It Matters Most

As Commercial Manager, you will take ownership of the commercial workstream across major capital projects from bid support and contract formation to construction delivery and close-out. Reporting directly to the Director of Project Commercials, you will be leading negotiations, managing risk, and safeguarding commercial outcomes at every stage.

Your expertise in upstream contract negotiation and risk review will be instrumental in:

  • Negotiating final contractual terms with end customers and delivery partners
  • Conducting detailed upstream/downstream risk assessments
  • Ensuring governance and due diligence standards are embedded in contract execution
  • Protecting margin through robust variation management and claims defence

Where others see contract complexity you see commercial opportunity.

Commercial Leadership That Drives Performance

This role demands a leader who balances strategic oversight with operational precision. You will:

  • Develop and implement Contract Management Plans to ensure seamless project handover
  • Provide expert advice across technical, scheduling, risk, and operational matters
  • Oversee variation proposals to ensure full scope capture, accurate cost breakdowns, and defensible value-for-money positions
  • Lead major negotiations and dispute resolution processes
  • Drive commercial close-out excellence and claims resolution

With your deep industry experience — ideally strengthened by a construction law qualification — you will bring clarity to ambiguity, discipline to governance, and strength to negotiation.

Influence Across a Matrixed Organisation

Success in this role requires more than technical expertise. It requires:

  • The ability to build trusted relationships across multidisciplinary teams
  • A collaborative mindset in a highly matrixed environment
  • The confidence to advise senior stakeholders and escalate critical risk
  • A passion for mentoring and developing commercial capability in others

You will partner with Proposal Managers to strengthen bids, provide lessons learned from delivery, and ensure risk balance before execution. You will help shape not just projects but future strategy.

The Experience You Bring

  • 10–15+ years in construction and engineering, with significant Commercial or Contracts Management leadership
  • Proven expertise managing large-scale capital infrastructure contracts
  • Strong upstream contract negotiation and risk mitigation capability
  • Deep understanding of governance, cost control, forecasting, and claims management
  • Extensive experience with construction claims preparation and close-out
  • Desirable but not essential is qualification in Construction Law
  • Adaptability and resilience in dynamic, high-value project environments
