Senior Engineer - Generator Commissioning

We are offering two opportunities: a permanent full‑time role and a 12‑month maximum‑term role.
The Opportunity
This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute as a Senior Engineer within Transgrid’s Generator Commissioning and Operations Support team. In this role you will lead generator commissioning activities, with a primary focus on validating R1 modelling results and confirming compliance with agreed Generator Performance Standards (GPS) through on‑site testing.
The role also includes monitoring and assessing generator non‑compliances, approving proposed solutions and plant alterations, and supporting Transgrid’s operations teams in resolving network issues associated with both synchronous and asynchronous generation technologies.
The practical experience gained through witnessing (remotely) of site testing, occasional site visits, and resolution of real technical issues will significantly strengthen your capabilities and enhance your long‑term career potential.
About you
- Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline) and bring a minimum of four years’ industry experience, including at least two years focused on generator commissioning or comparable technical work.
- Demonstrated capability in conducting technical assessments related to generator commissioning, grid connections, operations, or power system planning.
- Knowledge on the National Electricity Rules (NER), particularly the generator commissioning, Generator Performance Standards (GPS), and other applicable technical standards governing system planning, generator operations, and connection processes.
- Experience in generator primary/secondary systems design or testing, as well as exposure to generator controls and SCADA, will be considered advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to lead generator commissioning projects independently as Transgrid’s (Network Service Provider’s) representative, or capacity to develop this competency within a six‑month timeframe.
