About the opportunity

 

You’ll be joining the Operations Analysis team, which is responsible for both analysing the operational capability of the electricity network and energy management system integration (EMS) – they play an important role in ensuring the network operates safely and effectively.

 

As a Senior Engineer, you will take a leading role in the EMS (Energy Management System) , design modelling and troubleshooting, optimisation, and provide technical advice and leadership in resolving issues related to the power system and EMS. Working across Network Planning and Operations and SCADA teams, you will author and review robust technical reports, develop network models, document sound forecasts and streamline efficient power systems operations processes.

 

In this dynamic role, you’ll also work on the development and implementation of power systems operations and modelling, collaborate with other network service providers, and assess new technology in order to enhance cost-effectiveness, risk mitigation, and overall performance optimization. Supporting the SCADA team in the transition to renewable energy sources will also be a part of your role.

 

 

About you

 

You’ll be a proven Engineer from the energy industry (transmission, electricity or distribution) who is experienced in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems. You’ll be keen to join a growing, busy team and put your skills to good use. You will also have:

 

  • Tertiary qualifications at degree level in Electrical\Power Engineering
  • Proven Expertise in Energy Management Systems with a focus on real time applications
  • Experience in the analysis and development of electricity transmission systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages related to the role, such as C++ and Python is desired.
  • Experience in General Electric SCADA/EMS (GE Habitat) is preferred.
  • Experience in PSS/E and/or PowerFactory is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people including customers, suppliers, contractors, other technical experts and senior management 
  • Comprehensive understanding of risk management – qualitative and quantitative
  • Excellent knowledge of electrical networks engineering and operations
  • Strong written communications skills for persuasive reports and submissions.
  • Knowledge of the energy industry, National Electricity Market and its impact on operations of the NSW HV network and Transgrid’s business
