Senior Energy Market Consultant

We are looking for a Senior Energy Market Analyst to join Transgrid’s Energy Market Analysis team and help shape Australia’s renewable energy future.

In this role, you’ll provide expert electricity market modelling, regulatory analysis and strategic insight to support major transmission investments across NSW.

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Energy Market Analysis, you will conduct wholesale electricity market modelling to inform RIT-T assessments, business cases and network investment decisions. You’ll develop and maintain fit-for-purpose market models, forecast techno-economic outcomes (including costs, generation mix, emissions and prices), and deliver clear, evidence-based insights to internal and external stakeholders, including regulators.

You’ll collaborate closely with planning and operational teams to improve power system representation, engage with external stakeholders such as AEMO, the AER and TNSP peers, and support consultant-led modelling where required.

About you

You have tertiary qualifications in engineering, economics, mathematics or a related field, and strong experience in the National Electricity Market and regulatory frameworks. You bring hands-on electricity market modelling experience, including 2+ years using PLEXOS (or similar tools) and 3–5+ years in energy market analysis. You understand the NER and RIT-T processes and can translate complex modelling into clear, actionable insights. Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across organisations are essential.
