RTO Manager

Date: 8 Oct 2025

Location: NSW, Australia

Company: TransGrid

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network—powering homes, businesses, and communities.

As the energy sector evolves, we’re growing our workforce to drive innovation and transformation.

The Opportunity | Based in: Sydney, Newcastle, Wagga, Yass, Orange, or Tamworth.

We are seeking a highly experienced and forward-thinking RTO Manager to lead Transgrid’s nationally registered RTO. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring that our RTO remains compliant, sustainable, and strategically aligned with both regulatory requirements and the future skill needs of Australia’s energy sector.

As the accountable executive for Transgrid’s RTO, you will oversee all aspects of governance, registration, and compliance with ASQA and Smart & Skilled standards. Beyond compliance, you’ll set the direction for growth through enhancing program quality, industry relevance, and innovation in how we build technical capability across our workforce and the broader industry.

This is an opportunity to take an already established RTO and elevate it into a true centre of excellence. One that partners deeply with regulators, government, and industry to define the next generation of energy training standards.

In this role, you will:

  • Oversee the full governance, registration, and compliance requirements of Transgrid’s RTO, maintaining ASQA and Smart & Skilled accreditation with a continuous audit-ready mindset.
  • Define and execute a forward-looking strategy for the RTO, balancing regulatory compliance with innovation, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of professionals responsible for quality assurance, compliance, and RTO operations.
  • Build strong relationships with regulators, funding bodies, and industry partners to ensure Transgrid’s RTO remains credible, influential, and responsive to emerging workforce demands.

A Day in the Life at Transgrid

This role sits at the intersection of compliance and strategy, combining detailed governance oversight with the broader vision needed to build an RTO that truly shapes the energy workforce of the future.

No two days will be the same. You’ll shift between leading high-level strategy sessions, reviewing audit data and operational performance, and representing Transgrid’s RTO externally with confidence and authority.

On any given day, you might:

  • Meet with internal and external stakeholders to understand industry needs and drive the creation of training products to support the green energy transition.
  • Review ASQA compliance reports, AVETMISS data, or Smart & Skilled submissions to ensure accuracy, integrity, and transparency.
  • Lead internal or external audit activities, ensuring Transgrid’s RTO remains fully compliant and continuously improving.
  • Contribute to shaping Transgrid’s broader technical training ecosystem, ensuring that every accredited program is connected to real workforce outcomes and our commitment to safety and excellence.

About You

You are a proven RTO leader with deep experience in compliance, quality assurance, and governance across the Vocational Education and Training sector. You bring the confidence and credibility to lead an enterprise-level RTO, the strategic insight to modernise systems and frameworks, and the operational discipline to deliver consistent excellence in a regulated environment.

You balance precision with vision. You are comfortable leading audits and reporting cycles one day and influencing strategic industry conversations the next. You are a builder of teams, a connector of stakeholders, and a leader who takes pride in delivering both compliance integrity and tangible results.

You will bring:

  • Extensive experience leading a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) within a complex or regulated industry; ideally energy, utilities, or infrastructure.
  • Proven record managing ASQA compliance, Smart & Skilled contracts, audits, and registration renewals, maintaining strong relationships with regulators and funding bodies.
  • Strategic and commercial acumen; able to align RTO operations with corporate goals and industry direction while maintaining financial sustainability.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, capable of engaging confidently with executives, industry partners, and government representatives.
  • Certificate IV in Training & Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent) and tertiary qualifications in Business, Education, or Management.
