About the Role
As a Principal Engineer, you will act as a technical authority in power system analysis, leading advanced studies and providing specialist advice on transmission network performance and generator connections.
You will play a key role in shaping long-term network strategies, improving analysis frameworks, and representing the organisation across industry forums and technical conferences.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading and undertaking system strength and system security analysis for complex transmission network challenges
- Providing expert advice on network planning, performance, and generator connections
- Overseeing detailed modelling and studies using PSCAD, PSS®E, SSAT, and similar tools
- Extensive experience with programming languages such as Python for automation purposes
- Developing and refining power system analysis methodologies, including for emerging technologies such as grid-forming batteries
- Leading options analysis and contributing to both network and non-network solutions
- Delivering high-quality technical reports, briefings, and presentations to senior stakeholders
- Supporting key planning activities such as system stability, fault performance, reactive power requirements, and control systems
- Representing the organisation in industry forums and engaging with stakeholders including AEMO
- Leading stakeholder discussions and influencing technical outcomes across the sector
- Mentoring engineers and building capability across the team
About You
You are a highly experienced and respected power systems engineer with strong technical depth and the ability to influence at a senior level.
You will bring:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Extensive experience in power system and transmission planning, with a focus on system strength and system security
- Advanced expertise in tools such as PSCAD, PSS®E, SSAT, and similar platforms
- Strong experience modelling renewable generation, batteries, and synchronous machines
- Proficiency in Python and similar programming languages for automation and analysis
- Deep understanding of power system dynamics, including small signal stability and control systems
- Basic knowledge of control system concepts for the purpose of tuning exercise
- Strong knowledge of the National Electricity Market and its regulatory framework
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and represent the organisation externally
- A strategic mindset with strong problem-solving and analytical capability
- Postgraduate qualifications are highly regarded
