The Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Commercial Manager to join our Delivery business unit at a time of significant growth and national energy transformation.
In this strategic leadership role, you will be responsible for the end-to-end commercial management of a diverse portfolio of major infrastructure projects. Ranging from new transmission line builds and substation developments to large-scale grid interconnections. These projects play a critical role in enabling Australia’s energy transition and supporting a cleaner, more reliable electricity network.
Your primary accountability will be to lead the commercial function across this portfolio. Ensuring strong governance, commercial integrity, and alignment to project and organisational objectives. You’ll be a key partner to the Project Directors, Project Managers, and Planning & Controls teams, providing expert guidance on contractual strategy, risk mitigation, and commercial negotiations.
Key aspects of the role include:
- Shaping commercial frameworks and contract models (e.g. Master Agreements, Alliances, Incentive-Based Contracts) that support collaborative and value-driven project delivery.
- Leading complex upstream and downstream negotiations with delivery partners, contractors and external stakeholders to secure optimal risk-reward outcomes.
- Managing the commercial lifecycle of projects, from tender development and contract establishment through to claims, variations, and final close-out.
- Driving continuous improvement in commercial practices, systems and governance across the Delivery Projects group.

A Day in the Life at Transgrid
No two days are the same. In this role, you will:
- Lead commercial strategy and performance across a portfolio of transmission projects
- Drive contract model development (e.g. Master Agreements, Alliances, Gainshare) and negotiate upstream/downstream commercial terms
- Partner with project teams, legal, finance, procurement and planning to manage claims, risks, and commercial delivery
- Provide expert guidance on complex contractual issues, ensuring compliance with governance and regulatory obligations
- Uplift commercial capability across the broader Delivery Projects group through mentoring and training initiatives
About You
You're an experienced commercial leader with a strong background in infrastructure, construction, or major capital projects. You are driven by outcomes, skilled in contract strategy and negotiation, and thrive in complex stakeholder environments.
You also bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in business, engineering, commerce, law or related discipline
- Proven success in leading commercial strategy, contract management and negotiations in major projects
- Deep understanding of contract law, procurement processes, and risk management frameworks
- The ability to influence and build relationships across technical and non-technical teams
- Strong leadership capability with a passion for developing others and driving a culture of high performance
