As we scale our Infrastructure Delivery function, we are strengthening our construction leadership capability across substations to support major upgrades, expansions, and critical works programs. We are now seeking a Substation Construction Team Leader, a senior operational leader who will guide, develop, and optimise our team of Construction Site Resources delivering complex, high-voltage construction activities.
In this leadership role, you will oversee the day-to-day coordination, performance, capability development, and wellbeing of a dedicated team of approximately 15 Construction Site Resources. Working closely with the Construction Delivery Manager, you will play a key role in shaping how Transgrid plans, sequences and executes substation construction activities, driving continuous improvement, system uplift, and industry-leading safety performance.
You will set the tone for operational excellence, foster a high-performance culture, and ensure our people are set up to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality outcomes across our capital, maintenance, and outage programs.
A Day in the Life & Your Key Responsibilities
You’ll spend most of your time out on site, supporting your resources and staying closely connected to day-to-day delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & People Development
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Construction Site Resources
- Drive performance, engagement, wellbeing, and a strong safety culture
- Set clear priorities and promote continuous improvement across the team
Resource, Program & Delivery Management
- Plan and coordinate day-to-day construction delivery for substation projects
- Maintain a locked 3-month resource schedule in partnership with the Construction Coordinator
- Support cost/time estimates and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and delivery
Contractor & Stakeholder Management
- Oversee contractor performance, commercial alignment and KPIs
- Ensure construction plans are reviewed, understood, and executed correctly
- Build productive relationships with internal project teams and external partners
Health, Safety & Environment
- Lead by example in safety through Felt & Visible leadership
- Ensure compliance with HSE systems, risk assessments, and safe work practices
- Champion initiatives that strengthen safety culture and operational discipline

About You
You are an experienced construction leader with deep understanding of substation or HV electrical environments. You thrive in operational settings and know how to bring out the best in your people.
You will bring:
- Proven leadership experience managing field or construction teams
- Strong capability in resource planning, scheduling, and operational coordination
- Well-developed commercial, contract management and stakeholder engagement skills
- Advanced understanding of HSE requirements in high-risk environments
- Strong communication skills, resilience, and sound judgement
- Tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent experience in a relevant technical field
