The Opportunity
As a Real Time Support Engineer, you will sit at the operational heart of our high-voltage network at our Wallgrove Depot. Reporting to the Control Centre Manager, you will enable the safe, reliable and efficient real-time operation of the power system. You will develop and refine operating manuals, procedures and contingency plans that guide the Control Room through routine operations, outages and system emergencies. This is a role for someone who thrives in complexity, balancing outage planning, renewable integration, system security and stakeholder needs while helping shape the future of energy delivery.
What You Will Be Responsible For
• Providing expert technical advice to Control Room staff during outages and system events
• Supporting power system studies and developing contingency plans
• Developing and maintaining operating manuals, procedures and work instructions
• Advising on the safe access and operation of an evolving high-voltage network
• Continuously improving operational policies and procedures to enhance system efficiency and reliability
About You
You are a technically strong, systems-thinking engineer who understands both the theory and the operational reality of power systems.
You bring:
• A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
• Expertise in high-voltage and secondary equipment, power system protection and automatic control systems
• Strong understanding of safe work systems and risk management
• Experience analysing and optimising power system operations
• Knowledge of the energy market, operational planning and power system analysis
• Confidence navigating network complexity and responding effectively to unexpected system challenges
