Project Delivery Manager
Date: 31 Aug 2026
Location: Newcastle, NSW, Australia
Company: Transgrid

At Transgrid, we play a crucial role in delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable energy to millions of Australians. Operating over 13,000 km of high-voltage transmission lines and 128 substations across NSW and the ACT, we connect electricity generators to the distribution network powering homes, businesses, and communities.
The Opportunity
Every high-voltage line and substation TransGrid builds starts with a plan and someone accountable for turning that plan into steel in the ground, safely, on budget and on time. That's this role. As Projects Delivery Manager, you'll own a portfolio of prescribed capital works projects end to end, lead two teams (Project Managers and Project Engineers), and be the person the business turns to when delivery needs to move. It's a senior, hands-on leadership role at the centre of one of the country's most important energy infrastructure programs.
A Day in the Life
- Setting direction for your Project Managers and Project Engineers allocating them across the portfolio, unblocking issues, and holding the line on budget, schedule and quality.
- Sitting across the full project lifecycle: development, design coordination, construction delivery, asset acceptance and close-out.
- Partnering with Design & Development to keep engineering standards, methods and technical decisions sharp, safe and efficient.
- Holding contractors and delivery partners to account tracking performance, resolving contract claims, and negotiating outcomes that protect both cost and schedule.
- Working the wider TransGrid network, Commercial, Scheduling & Risk, Asset Management, Network Operations and Legal to keep every moving part aligned.
- Fronting external customers and regulators directly, translating technical delivery into commercial outcomes they can trust.
- Investing in your people: performance conversations, development plans, and building the bench strength the team will need next.
Why This Role Matters
Capital delivery is where TransGrid's strategy either lands or stalls. Every kilometre of line and every substation upgrade this role delivers feeds directly into the reliability of the grid and directly into the corporate KPIs and efficiency targets the whole business is measured against. Get this role right, and the impact is visible at a network scale, not just a project scale.
About You
- A degree in engineering, construction, project management or a related discipline or the runs on the board to match
- Real depth delivering capital projects for energy networks, including greenfield work from the ground up
- Experience running a large capital works program, not just individual projects — budgets, resourcing, competing priorities, the lot
- A track record leading multi-disciplinary teams and getting the best out of people with very different specialisms
- The commercial instincts to negotiate hard with contractors and customers without losing the relationship
- A steady, collaborative style under pressure, backed by an unshakeable commitment to safety and doing things the right way
