We’re launching a new opportunity for electricians who want more than just the tools. Our Construction Electrician role is the perfect stepping stone for those who aspire to grow, lead, and shape the future of energy infrastructure with Transgrid, with opportunities available across all major regional depots throughout NSW, including across: Sydney, Newcastle, Orange, Wagga, Yass & Tamworth. Start dates from September 2026 onwards, with flexibility for earlier commencement if required.
You will work as part of a high-performing construction team responsible for substation installation, commissioning, and project delivery across our transmission network. You’ll be mentored by experienced leaders, exposed to a variety of major infrastructure projects, and gain the knowledge and practical experience to build a long-term career in energy infrastructure delivery.

Please note that this role involves regular travel and working away from home across NSW and ACT during the week, pending depot and site location.
A Day in the Life at Transgrid
No two days are the same in this role. You’ll be part of our construction team, working alongside experienced Site Managers and Technicians to deliver critical substation works that keep our energy network running.
A typical week includes:
- Pre-start coordination; conducting safety briefings, reviewing documentation, and planning daily work activities across multiple sites.
- Field installation and commissioning; performing HV and LV electrical works, assisting in equipment testing, isolations, and commissioning under Transgrid’s standards.
- Stakeholder collaboration; liaising with contractors, project managers, and internal delivery teams to ensure safe, efficient progress across all works.
- Safety leadership and mentoring; promoting best practice safety culture, contributing to toolbox talks, and supporting apprentices and peers in the field.
- Professional growth; spending time learning from Site Managers, gaining exposure to project planning, resource coordination, and quality assurance activities.
This role combines hands-on technical work with real opportunities to learn, lead, and progress. You’ll develop the confidence and capability to manage construction activities independently while preparing for future leadership roles within Transgrid.
About You
You are a motivated and qualified Electrician who enjoys continuous learning and contributing to large-scale infrastructure delivery. You take pride in quality and safety and have the drive to progress into leadership roles over time.
Essential Requirements:
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent Electrical Trades Course Certificate.
- Strong practical knowledge of HV/LV installation, wiring, testing and commissioning.
- Proven ability to interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
- Willingness to travel extensively across NSW and work away from home during the week.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills with a proactive, safety-first mindset.
- Current Australian Drivers License
Desirable:
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience in HV, heavy industry or large infrastructure construction (rail, mining, tunnelling, utilities).
- Experience as a Leading Hand or informal supervisor.
