The Opportunity | Sydney, Newcastle, Wagga, Yass, Orange, or Tamworth
We’re seeking a dynamic Commissioning Manager to lead the people, performance, and process of Transgrid’s commissioning function within Infrastructure Delivery.
This is a unique leadership opportunity to guide a highly skilled and mobile workforce, shaping how commissioning operates across our major infrastructure program. The role is about leadership, structure, and influence. Empowering teams and building culture in a technically complex environment.
In this role, you will:
- Lead and develop a team of commissioning leaders and specialists across NSW and the ACT.
- Oversee the end-to-end commissioning process from design through to energisation.
- Drive workforce development, capability uplift, and engagement within the commissioning team.
- Collaborate with Project Delivery, Engineering & Design, and Operations to align outcomes to Transgrid’s strategic objectives.
- Champion a safety-first culture and continuous improvement across all commissioning activities.
A Day in the Life at Transgrid
Every day is varied and purposeful. You’ll set direction for your leaders, work closely with delivery and design teams, and create clarity in an environment of technical complexity. You’ll be responsible for transforming how commissioning operates, making it more consistent, proactive, and collaborative.
A typical week may involve:
- Running weekly team and stakeholder planning sessions to set clear priorities.
- Supporting leaders through coaching, safety investigations, and workforce development.
- Reviewing commissioning progress, reporting on risks and improvement opportunities.
- Partnering with peers to ensure adequate skills development and allocation for the efficient delivery across all programs.
- Leading with visibility, care, and connection, bringing the team together around shared goals.
About You
You are an experienced leader who thrives on building culture, connection, and performance. You may come from construction, operations, or technical environments, but your strength lies in leading people. Not in being the technical subject matter expert.
You’ll be known for your ability to bring structure to complex environments, drive engagement, and inspire accountability and growth.
To succeed, you’ll bring:
- Demonstrated leadership experience leading leaders, not just individual contributors.
- Proven capability in driving culture, engagement, and performance improvement.
- Strong stakeholder and relationship management skills, with an enterprise mindset.
- A collaborative and courageous approach to problem solving and decision making.
- A deep commitment to safety, wellbeing, and Transgrid’s leadership principles — Courage, Care, Clarity, and Connection.
Leading in this Role at Transgrid
At Transgrid, leadership is about creating clarity, driving connection, and enabling people to do their best work. Our leaders embody our principles of Courage, Care, Clarity, and Connection and this role is a true reflection of those values in action.
As Commissioning Manager, you’ll lead through influence and empowerment, setting the tone for how commissioning teams collaborate, grow, and perform. You’ll build capability, drive engagement, and help every person in your team see how their work contributes to Transgrid’s broader purpose.
Leadership at Transgrid means:
- Having the courage to challenge the status quo and drive continuous improvement.
- Leading with care by supporting the wellbeing, development, and safety of your people.
- Creating clarity by aligning your team’s goals to our enterprise vision and priorities.
- Strengthening connection across teams, functions, and communities, so everyone moves forward together.
This is a leadership role for someone who thrives on developing others, creating structure in complex environments, and shaping a culture that inspires growth and excellence.
