Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for Transgrid’s Apprentice Program, you’ll need to meet the following requirements:

 

  • Education: Completion of Year 10 (or equivalent) by the end of 2025, with sound maths and communication skills.

  • Career Interest: A genuine desire to pursue a trade in the high-voltage electricity transmission industry.

  • Licence: A current driver’s licence or willingness to obtain one shortly after starting.

  • Personal Attributes: Environmentally and socially responsible, motivated, a strong team player, and eager to learn.

  • Skills: Clear communicator, collaborative, lateral thinker, and able to contribute to innovative solutions.

  • Cultural Awareness: Respectful of and sensitive to diversity and inclusion.

  • Residency: Must be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or a New Zealand citizen.

  • Mobility & Availability: Willing and able to travel and work away from home as needed, and available to commence in January 2025.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work at heights and in/on plant and equipment, noting a maximum weight limit of 140kg for safety compliance of approved ladders.

   

The Recruitment Process:

 

  1. Eligibility: Confirm your eligibility for the position that you are applying for.

  2. Submit application: Create a profile on our careers portal and submit your application.

  3. Screening: Our recruitment team will assess your application and inform you if you are unsuccessful.

  4. Online Testing: If you pass screening, you will receive an email with instructions complete online cognitive testing, inclusive of numeracy, literacy and abstract reasoning. 

  5. Shortlisting: If you have successfully passed the benchmark for the online cognitive testing, the recruitment will review your application and you will be notified if you have progressed to the next stage.   

  6. Interview Centre: If you are successfully shortlisted, you will be invited to attend our in-person Interview Centre in July/August 2025. 

  7. Pre-Employment Checks: Candidates selected at the Interview Centre will be invited to undergo pre-employment checks. 

  8. Offer of Employment: Successful candidates will receive a verbal offer of employment followed by a formal offer sent by email.

  • Cognitive Testing Finalised: Sunday, 29th June

  • Interview Centre held: From Mid-July 2025

  • Pre-Employment Checks Finalised: August 205

  • Offer of Employment: September 2025
