Below you can learn about just a few of the key Operational role types and functions.
Tradespeople
Our close-knit Trades teams – consisting predominately of qualified power electricians and fitters – work out in the field to maintain, test and repair equipment at Transgrid sites, such as substations. They also contribute to small scale electrical building and development projects to expand our infrastructure in regional New South Wales.
If you’re interested in joining our Trades team, you will need to complete the Transgrid Electrical or Transmission Lines Apprenticeship. Click here to learn more about these programs.
Non-Tradespeople
Our non-trade operational teams protect and maintain the easements that run underneath our transmission lines. It’s a broad role that involves liaising with land owners and vegetation management professionals to ensure that our infrastructure has minimal impact on the local environment.
Technical
Predominately based in regional areas, our technical specialists workout in the field to install and maintain communication assets and technologies such as radio towers and fiber optics. They enjoy interesting, hands-on work that relies on electrical skills and creative problem-solving to ensure the reliable flow of electricity through substations and transmission lines.
Operations Specialists
Operational specialists hold the entire Transgrid network in their hands. Based in secure control rooms, these teams monitor the flow of electricity across the network 24/7 to ensure that the lights stay on in local communities. Their role involves responding to faults and emergency conditions, and redirecting electricity to ensure that all of New South Wales has adequate power supply during peak periods.
