Apprentice Roles

We're proud to offer high voltage electrical, transmission line and telecommuncation Apprenticeship Programs. 

Each year we offer a number of positions to motivated people who are keen to learn an electrical trade and start a career in the energy industry.

The types and locations of apprenticeships differ from year to year, however they are guaranteed to provide you with challenging and interesting opportunities and the chance to learn from some of the best in the industry. Upon successfully completing your apprenticeship, you will be fully certified and eligible to apply for a technical role within our business.

To be considered for an apprenticeship, you will need to:

  • Be an Australian citizen or a permanent resident of Australia
  • Have successfully completed Year 10 (or equivalent studies)
  • Possess strong mathematics and communication skills.

Apprenticeships are offered in the following areas:

Electrical Apprenticeship

Our Electrical Apprenticeship offers an opportunity to receive industry leading training in the installation, inspection, repairs and maintenance of assets within the High Voltage Substations. Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship you will be eligible to receive a Certificate III in Electrotechnology – Electrician.

Telecommunication Technician Apprenticeship

Our Telecommunication Technician Apprenticeship offers an opportunity to receive industry leading training in the installation, inspection, repairs and maintenance of telecommunications assets that support High Voltage equipment. Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship you will be eligible to receive a Certificate III in Electronics and Communication.

Transmission Lines Technician Apprenticeship

Our Transmission Line Technician Apprenticeship offers an opportunity to receive Industry leading training in the installation, inspection, repairs and maintenance of transmission line assets with the High Voltage Network. Once you have successfully completed the apprenticeship you will be eligible to receive a Certificate III in ESI – Power Systems – Transmission Overhead.

Recruitment Process 

1. Applying 

When applying, you will need to submit an up-to-date resume and provide details of your work experience, qualifications and referees.

2. Online Selection Test

Once applications have closed if you have progressed to the next stage of the recruitment process, you will be emailed an invitation to complete the Phase 1 of the online selection test that can be done in your own time. This test measures your ability relating to the advertised role within the electrical industry as a technical employee. Following this, if you are successful you will receive Phase 2 of the online selection test that can be done in your own time. All results will remain confidential to Transgrid.

3. Interview and Practical Assessment 

You will receive an email informing of whether you will progress to the next stage. This will involve:

  1. A 15-minute online numeracy skills test.
  2. A 45-minute panel interview. The questions will focus on what you know about Transgrid, as well as areas such as teamwork, working independently, personal work standards, learning, following instructions, problem-solving, communication, health, safety and the environment.
  3. A practical assessment that is based on the trade you have applied for.

4. Pre-employment Assessments

You will be informed of the outcome of your interview via email or phone. If you are successful you will be subject to Transgrid’s pre-employment assessments, which will include reference checks, criminal history record check, medical check, qualification checks etc.

(Note: Not all candidates that go through Stage 4: Pre-employment Assessments will be offered a position)

5. Job Offer

Upon successful completion of all assessments, you may be contacted to confirm a place in the Apprenticeship Program.

This offer will be formalised with an appointment letter and new starter information package.
